NEW ATARI CD-I DRIVE FOR ALL STS
--------------------------------
As the Big Night Out magazine finally gets finished, we here of
a new CD-I drive for all STS, giving them power to get great
amounts of information at great speeds.
The features are as follows:
--------------------------------------------------------------
SIZE 12mm CAPACITY 650Mb
--------------------------------------------------------------
SPEED 170Kb/Sec RESOLUTION 384x280
--------------------------------------------------------------
QUALITY Photographic COLOURS 16 million
--------------------------------------------------------------
SOUND 72 mins PRICE £400 about
--------------------------------------------------------------
The drives Atari will be using will be Philips, whom have agreed
with electronics giants, Sony for complete compatibility, which
means a lot of software could be arriving with the machine. The
only difference being that the system software will be
different.
Other companies who have started producing CD equipment, but they
have been using their own designs and hardware, meaning that the
software will be much more costly to produce, as it will be in
limited supply.
Atari have not decided (well couldnt reveal) the release date but
the FALCON (Ataris new CD-ST) will be released in 1992.
Commodores machine is priced at £650.00 so the ST beats the S#!?
out of Commodore again with a lower price of £400. (Srry about
the language there, but Commodore is quite a dirty word and quite
a sensitive area when ST users are concerned.)
